Understanding Autism Through My Lens
As a single mother of two, I have been on a transformative journey, particularly with my son who has been diagnosed with autism since he was five. My personal experiences have not only shaped my understanding of autism but have also led me to question various misconceptions that arise within society. With my daughter showing signs of possibly being autistic, this journey has become even more poignant.
A New Diagnosis: Understanding Myself
Recently, I received my own diagnosis of AUDHD (Autism Spectrum Disorder and ADHD). Learning about my own neurological makeup has been eye-opening. I realized that much of what I once thought about autism—both in terms of myself and my son—was clouded by misinformation and a lack of understanding. This awakening has motivated me to advocate not only for my children but also for others who may face similar challenges.
From Struggles to Achievements: My Path Forward
Over the past decade, I have battled many obstacles, including self-doubt and societal misconceptions. However, I didn’t let those challenges deter me; I graduated college and earned a master’s degree in data science. This achievement has equipped me with the tools necessary for self-advocacy. My goal is to uplift others in similar situations and perhaps even write a book or start a consulting business to share my knowledge and experiences with the world.
